It will be a concern for any parent when their child comes into contact with the Criminal Justice System. We have a wealth of experience in dealing with young persons at the police station and in the Courts.
Whereas the law is the same, the way young persons are treated in the legal process is different. The emphasis with young persons is to prevent offending. Often therefore, arrest does not necessarily mean going to Court. There are many avenues available to divert the young person away from the Court system and we encourage the authorities to use all of them. We feel that Court should be a measure of last resort for young persons so they are not criminalised. That is our ethos when dealing with young persons in the police station.
However, sometimes going to Court becomes a reality. In those circumstances we put our legal knowledge and experience in representing young persons into practice to obtain the best result possible.
